Support for diverse learners is integrated into every unit.

Inquiry By Design is committed to the integration of intellectual rigor and language development in our work with all students, including English learners.

Toward that end, all units in Inquiry By Design’s curriculum purposefully integrate

  • Reading, writing, speaking, viewing, and listening.

  • Additional scaffolds and modifications for English learners to amplify existing supports.

  • Arcs of work where texts are read and reread multiple times for clear and meaningful purposes.

  • Carefully designed sequences where increasingly sophisticated work is scaffolded by initial tasks.

  • Cycles of small-group, whole-group, and independent work that provide opportunities for students to try out ideas, to try on academic language, and to refine and communicate developed text-based positions.

  • Writing, all the time—from note taking and annotating to quick writes, playful “write likes,” and formal papers.
